Their advocacy for venue accessibility, inclusive rehearsal processes, and adaptive sensory resources reflects a commitment to making the arts more equitable and welcoming for all, particularly within neurodiverse and disabled communities.
Creative Practice
Oily Cart:
- Lead Access and Wellbeing for sensory theatre programs, manage the Sensory Board Pilot to amplify voices with access barriers, and oversee access resources, grants, and safeguarding.
Access All Areas:
- Support the Take Part Programme, helping participants grow creatively and gain confidence.
- Facilitate performance workshops for learning-disabled and autistic adults, support inclusive programs like ‘Take Part,’ at Battersea Arts Centre and create accessible materials aligned with the social model of disability.
Individual Support:
- As a Support Worker and Personal Assistant, Maka provides skilled support as a coping strategies counsellor, travel companion, and access advocate for disabled artists.
Paisaje Público:
- Represent the organization dedicated to the promotion of living arts in public space in Chile at international arts events like Circostrada, SPOT Festival, and FiraTàrrega, while evaluating programs, advising artistic directors, and delivering reports with collaboration and community initiative recommendations.
CircoStrada:
- Maka advocates for disability leadership and presence in outdoor arts and public spaces as part of different committees in CircoStrada Network for contemporary Circus and outdoor Arts, contributing disability, gender, and access insights to the Charter for Diversity.
